Before making any pie, you need to start with the right crust. My mamma used the same pie crust for berry and fruit pies. She learned the recipe from her Mamma. It was simple, used few ingredients, and was really simple to make and bake. So, before I give you the Apple Pie recipe, I am going to give you the base. The foundation!
Grandma Bennett’s Simple Pie Crust
Makes 1 pie’s crust, top and bottom
- 2c all-purpose flour
- 3/4c oil
- 1/4c water
- Mix all ingredients
- Roll half to about 1/4″ thickness
- Put in pie tin.
Yep, that is pretty much it! After putting it in the tin, you fill the crust with your desired, well, fillings. Bake according to the pie fillings/type.
Remember that Cinnamon Sugar Pie I discussed in the Pie Season post? Roll crust, put crust in tin, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, bake about 5-10 minutes, remove from oven and consume.
